Doing What Must Be Done

Sometimes unexpected events come to us, things that at first bring us immense fear. Whether it’s a sudden expense you can’t afford or an errand for a love one that can’t be ignored, things happen to us that call for courage, and to do what must be done.

I’m writing this to help inspire those of you readers who are facing challenges in your life right now. You might be working extra hours to cover a medical bill, or struggling to sell a house after a divorce. Whatever difficulties you’re currently facing, I want to prove you can overcome them by sharing several motivation stories.

I’m not here to say “I’m the bravest person in the world who overcomes challenges with ease.” Rather, I’m hear say “I’ve experienced many tough moments in my life but did what I had to do to flip to the next chapter.” Nothing can be the end of the world for you unless you let it. If you decide, you can muster the courage to do anything.

When I was visiting family in British Columbia this summer, I got into an unexpected car crash that ruined my whole vacation. But as you’ll soon learn I did what I had to do. The car accident wasn’t my fault, but nonetheless I picked up the phone and called for a tow truck Victoria BC company to come out and tow my car to the collision repair shop, where I was arguing on the phone all evening. Dealing with my insurance company to get the car repair costs covered was one of the hardest and most stressful things I ever had to do. Because I was visiting out of province the insurance company threatened that I might not be covered. There was endless paper work and even had to appear at court to prove the car accident was not my fault. Thankfully, just when I felt like my head was about to explode from stress, everything came together and my car repairs were covered. I was able to enjoy the rest of my vacation, although a little disheartened. I became grateful for the inner courage I was able to muster to pull through this tribulation.

Another story I want to share, to highlight the ability I believe we all have to push through hard times, is not my own story but rather one of a dear friend, named Emily. She had served in the Canadian Armed Forces for many years, and recently retired from the army to pursue her dream of being a bakery owner in Calgary. Today, she’s on the verge of making that dream come true, but it wasn’t easy, and several times she almost gave up. She thought it would have been easy to get started, for she already knew how to bake and had bought a storefront location. But what she didn’t expect was the mountains and mountains of paperwork involved in registering a business and getting her taxes sorted. At one point, feeling helpless, she almost decided it would be easier to drop the dream and just work as a baker for an already established shop in Calgary. I don’t want to take credit for talking her out of giving up, for I watched the courage build up in her. Despite all the stress of starting a business, she persevered and now she’s happier than she’s ever been in her life, mere days away from hanging the “open” sign above her bakery door. All she’s waiting on now is for renovations to finish and to hire a few staff.

I’m beyond proud of her, and I know you, the reader, don’t know me personally but I believe I’ll soon be proud of you too. Whatever challenges come you’re way, you will do what must be done to overcome it, even if it means drinking too much coffee. I believe in you.

The Problem with Mechanical Routines

I’m not sure if Karl Marx ever worked a boring mechanical job, but that’s beside the point. It’s the same problem even the ancient Greeks had, that is waking up and doing the same old boring thing every day. Said like that, the problem might be self explanatory. The writers here at Rezonord, however, think this problem deserves a deeper explanation.

Personally, having worked in construction and restaurants, the writer of this article believes it’s important to fulfil your duty and responsibilities, but seconding as a thinker the writer also believes life is supposed to be enjoyed. In early life, if no one tells you differently, it’s easy to heap up duties and responsibilities on your back for you to perform every day. Once a major responsibility, like raising a child, is placed on your shoulder, it can be difficult to regain that chunk of freedom that the responsibility replaced. Without every thinking, we might assume it’s our duty to heap up as many responsibilities onto our shoulders as possible throughout life. After all, the opposite of doing that is much worse – being lazy and useless.

Now you might start to see why this is a touchy subject with many nuances. The point we’re really trying to make, if it’s not too late, is to maybe try to make each day more exciting by getting rid of mechanical routines that don’t make life enjoyable.

Do you wake up at the same time every day? Do you have dinner at the same time every day? Do you take advice from a random blogger every day? Answering these questions might help to answer the main question I’d like to bring up, which I’ll now ask and answer for you.

What is the problem with daily mechanical routines?

The problem with daily mechanical routines is that following them everyday leaves no room for artistic expression in your character, not to mention unexpected growth and development, or time to enjoy the simple things. If you believe each day will be different than the last, then you don’t need to worry about mechanical routines. It’s people who dread each day that might benefit from some change. Humans are not robots expected to perform consistently time and time again. Even the world’s greatest athletes go through a time of creativity and a time disintegration. A boxer must change the way he fights, even if slightly, to match the style of each unique opponent.

By doing the same boring routine every day, you’re essentially being a robot, because humans, like we said, are supposed to enjoy life. It’s up to us whether we want each day to be fresh, unique and exciting, or perform the same boring tasks every day. If you have a responsibility you must perform daily, one solution to make life more enjoyable would be to approach it artistically each time. For example, even walking the dog can become exciting by taking a different route though the park…

What will you decide?

Top 3 Spring Cleaning Tips for 2022

It’s about that time of year where we can catch some sun rays in our own backyards. But we wouldn’t want to lounge on a messy patio or rest in the yard when we know we still haven’t done our spring cleaning. So if you’re like many loved ones I know and are only getting to your spring cleaning now in late May of 2022, then I compiled some tips for you that I collected from friends and my own experience that are tailored for spring cleaning in 2022.

I hope you get inspired, learn something and most importantly enjoy your spring! Now enjoy these top tips.

Top Spring Cleaning Tip #1: Start off with an assessment of your whole property or properties that need spring cleaning, and write a checklist of things you need to get done. This strategy of making a plan first makes things more efficient. If you just start by tackling the first thing in mind, you might realize you could’ve saved hours of time if you had only began one project instead of another or did things in a different order.

So tip #1 is all about being aware of what needs to get done and spending the time to think and plan before jumping right ahead. Especially in 2022 where you might be eager to get things refreshed, it’s important to take your time and and think ahead. Try using a free online calendar to schedule your tasks over a span of several days at the least, if you don’t already have a calendar at home. I also found that a journal or a planner can help you organize your cleaning projects. It’s amazing how much time you can save when you’re well prepared, for this time also allows you to gather all the tools and products you’ll need for various tasks.

Top Spring Cleaning Tip #2: Once you have your game plan, start with the most difficult thing, so long as it doesn’t impede you from doing the other things on your list. Say, for example, my friend’s aunt needed crawl space mould removal service in late April and since this was the hardest thing on the list of all her chores she did it first. By getting the hardest thing done first, you make the whole experience more enjoyable because the work that could be considered more fun is left for last and you don’t have to work knowing you saved the hardest thing for last. But like all the tips here, it’s not necessary, only here to improve your spring cleaning if you wish to use it.

Top Spring Cleaning Tip #3: While you’re actually cleaning and knocking off all the chores on your list, keep reminding yourself why you’re doing this and how you plan to enjoy your space as the weather continues to get sunnier. When I was cleaning my back patio, for example, I thought of how this spring could be the perfect opportunity to reacquaint with old friends I haven’t seen in several years by organizing a BBQ.

Some people do a large cleaning session in spring time purely for the results of cleanliness, but I like to look at is as trimming the fat of winter for summertime fun and festivity. While cleaning you also have the ability to ponder on things, so it can also help to motivate you to get more cleaning done when you remind yourself why you’re cleaning and how much fun you’re going to have in the summer.

These were my top 3 tips for spring cleaning in 2022. I hope you found them useful and make great progress on your projects this long weekend. Thanks for reading and check back on the Rezonord blog for more.

Drinking too much coffee at work…

Welcome to the Rezonord Blog.

Today, while drinking too much coffee at work, even though I always tell myself not to, I thought about drinking more coffee and then I went back to work. Fun story, right?

Next day, I was about to do the same thing when suddenly I poem popped in my head. It went:

Coffee, coffee, coffee, I drink you every day. Coffee, coffee, coffee, you make my day okay. Help me, help me, help me, is what I’m trying to say. Coffee oh how you haunt, but here you have to stay…

So then I made more coffee and went back to work.

Maybe I’ll add the goal of quitting coffee to my 2022 resolutions. But not until I have another coffee!

Winter-proofing Your Home, Why It’s Important

It’s 2021, and the weather is more unpredictable than ever. People are stuck in their homes around the world, whether from government lockdown mandates or bad weather itself. In parts of the world, electric grids are down. Who knows? Your electricity might go out this winter? If it does, what will you do about it?

Let me tell you what I’m doing about it ahead of time, in Vancouver BC. I’m winter-proofing my home, renovating for better insulation, installing several new fireplaces, strengthening the foundation with masonry. I’ll be ready – but will you? – when electricity goes out this winter…

Even if it’s on Christmas day when the electricity goes out, we’ll be prepared like true classical liberals, not needing any help from the government, when we use our chopped wood to keep the house warm and open our presents around the firelight. We’ll be eating smoked meat. Reading poetry in our winter-proof home. Safe and secure. What about you?

The meek will inherit the earth. I always thought that meant the people who know how to survive without government assistance will be the last ones standing when Hell breaks loose and winter hits the fan.

When the roads are frozen and the stores close early, will you have enough to survive? Or will you do what every progressive will probably do and call 911 on their phones with low batteries just to be put on hold? I’m telling you it’s important to winter-proof your home, because the government isn’t going to do it for you.

This leaves me to share an anonymous quote: “If you can take a precaution and it doesn’t hurt you, it may hurt you not to take it.”

Good luck out there. Winter is coming.

The Simple Things

Today I wanted to sit back and reflect on the simple things in life. Living in the world, after all, can get complex so it’s easy to take the small stuff for granted. Perhaps there are areas of your life that are so blessed yet so simple you never notice. By taking the time to intentionally be grateful for the positive nuances in your environment you can expand your outlook to be much more positive in general.

This is what I have been doing this morning and I’m so glad I did. Let this be a cordial memento, and before I finished I want to share 5 things I am grateful for today but previously took for granted.

  1. The clean water in my city
  2. The smell of rain
  3. The dedication of emergency response teams
  4. My neighbor’s adorable cat
  5. The sweetness in my toothpaste
